The National Training System

The National Training System or NTS was developed by the U.S. Olympic archery coach to increase repeatability of shooting form and decrease the change of injury by considering the biomechanics of shooting. It has been refined over the years with the current version consisting of eleven separate steps.

This is the shooting form we teach our athletes, and we ask that each of them memorizes the sequence of steps.

The 11 steps of the National Training System are stance, nock, hook and grip, set, set-up, draw to load, anchor, transfer to hold, expand/aim, release/follow through, and feedback.
